| | Thu Sep 30, 2004 Drill Target Defined on Helen Gold Project
|
| | Hinterland Metals Inc. (TSXV: HMI) (the "Company") has now received all data from an exploration program completed on the Helen Gold Project in July and August 2004. Limited work was also completed on the Gleam Property which is adjacent to the Helen Property. Both properties are located in the Finlayson Lake area of Southeastern Yukon.
Work on the Helen Property was centered on the Helen Gold Zone which was discovered in August 2003 (Press Release September 16, 2003). A grid was established over the zone and prospecting, geochemical sampling and Horizontal Loop Electromagnetic ("HLEM") surveys were completed. Additional prospecting and sampling was conducted on the remainder of the property and on a portion of the Gleam Property. No significant results were obtained from the Gleam Property. The Helen results are summarized below.
The HLEM survey traced a weak conductor for 300 m in a northwest to southeast direction. Further mineralization was found in place approximately 50 m southeast of the original discovery and along the trend of the conductor. This second site is mostly buried by talus and no surface dimensions were determined. Gold and silver values from grab samples collected at this site range from 0.77 to 3.41 g/t Au and 1.4 to 2.9 g/t Ag. Similar to the original showing, the mineralization at the second showing is characterized by anomalous arsenopyite and bismuth values ranging form 774 to 8980 ppm As and 426 to 1855 ppm Bi. The mineralization is composed of semi-massive arsenopyite and pyrite within white to black quartz veins. Folding is evident within the quartz veins.
A third site was located an additional 80 m southeast along the trend of the conductor. A single grab sample from a 1.5 wide rusty quartz vein exposed at this site returned 59.6 g/t Ag and 4100 ppm Bi but low gold and arsenic values. This quartz vein shows the same general orientation as the HLEM conductor and may be related to the mineralization found at the first two sites.
The results of the 2004 work demonstrate linear continuity to the Helen Gold Zone and justify further, sub-surface exploration of the zone by diamond drilling. The Company plans to drill the zone in the summer of 2005 when logistical and weather conditions are at their best.
All analytical work was completed by the ALS Canada Inc. laboratory in North Vancouver, B.C. Gold values were determined by fire assay followed by AA finish. All other elements were determined by four-acid partial digestion followed by ICP-AES analysis. Mark Fekete, P.Geo. is the designated "qualified person" as defined in Section 1.2 in and for the purposes of National Instrument 43-101 responsible for the exploration program on the property and the preparation of this release.
